Common Sizes for Domestic & Industrial Applications
Stainless steel ball valves serve as on-off control components in fluid systems, with a broad size range from small-bore to large-bore:
- Domestic: DN15–DN25 (approx. 1/2" to 1"), ideal for domestic kitchen water lines and water heater setups.
- General Engineering: DN50–DN100 (2" to 4"), commonly used within HVAC piping and irrigation networks.
- Industrial: DN150 and larger (6" and above), deployed in chemical, energy and other specialized industrial processes.

Key Sizing Considerations
A larger valve is not always the best choice. Take these factors into account:
1. Pipe Compatibility: Valve end bore size must match the connected pipe nominal diameter.
2. Flow Requirements: Large-bore valves are used for high flow rates and deliver lower system pressure drop.
3. Installation Clearance: Valves DN80 and above need a minimum 30cm operating radius for actuation.

Application-specific sizing recommendations:
- Underfloor heating manifolds: DN20 is preferred to balance heat emission and hydraulic resistance.
- Automatic garden irrigation: DN32 ball valve with integrated filter to prevent debris clogging.
- High-rise buildings: DN65 pressure reducing valves are suggested every 10 floors to maintain stable water pressure.
